OSHA uses the term "General Industry" to refer to all industries not included in agriculture, construction or maritime. Examples include manufacturing, retail, healthcare, service and trucking. 

"Construction" is defined by OSHA as work for construction, alteration, and/or repair, including painting and decorating. 

The one question we get asked a lot is, "Okay, what about maintenance?" 

Maintenance is usually General Industry as long as it is work that is focused on keeping a structure in proper condition in an anticipated, routine or scheduled way. 

If it is structural maintenance, that will most often apply to Construction.
